A GARDEN ALWAYS IN BLOOM

It was a beautiful Saturday yesterday. What better way to spend a sunny day than amongst the beauty of the fountains and flowers of Longwood Gardens. Also, it was nice to escape the deafening sound of the cicadas. It was so surprising that they were nowhere in sight there! Thank goodness! I had gone to Longwood Gardens when I was just a young girl, but I didn't remember it too well. I was so happy to go again.

Pierre S. du Pont was "one of the country's most influential gardeners." His farm became a magnificent garden where he would entertain his friends, and has since become a place for people to visit from around the world. The gardens, fountains and conservatory at Longwood reminded me of the gardens, fountains and conservatory at High Point University. Maybe this is why I felt so at home walking around. Every garden and fountain at HPU and Longwood Gardens are magical!

Walking into Longwood Gardens made me feel at peace. It is a photographer's dream! I came across every very possible kind of flower...roses, tulips, peonies, baptisia, and azalea, just to name a few. Although I have never been to Paris or Rome, I felt as if I were walking through those incredible cities. My favorite places were the Conservatory and the Italian Water Garden. I also visited the Pierre du Pont House, the Flower Garden walk, Chimes Tower & Carillon, Grand Pleasures, and Hillside Garden. I wish I had more time. I will definitely be going back.

At 9:15, there was a colorful fountain light show. The entire place came alive with fountain displays set to retro disco music. It was actually really cool and something not to be missed! Only suggestion is if you go, make sure to bring lawn chairs and set them up in the afternoon when you get there.

It was truly an awesome way to celebrate Environment Day!
