CHARMED WITH CHARLESTON

Updated: May 29, 2021

Pastel colored houses, cobblestone streets, palm trees, and plenty of shops and restaurants. A city rich in history and charm, Charleston has it all.

I have been enjoying my first stop on my road trip!

FOR THE GRAM

• Pink, blue, yellow, green, and lavender. A trip to Charleston wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Rainbow Row located along East Bay Street. These pastel colored houses which stretch a couple of blocks were were constructed in 1740 and used by merchants. At that time they were not painted. They weren't painted until later and the first one was painted pink. The area is one of the most popular spots for photography in Charleston.

• Ok, I love fountains. After all, I go to a university that has 16 around campus. The Pineapple Fountain in Charleston is an iconic must see located in the heart of Waterfront Park. Did you know that the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality?

• There is nothing as beautiful as a sunset. A great spot to eat and watch the sunset is The Charleston Fish House in Patriots Point in the Charleston Harbor. Watching the sun set behind the USS Yorktown and The Ravenel Bridge while eating a great dinner can't be beat.

IT'S SHOP O'CLOCK IN CHARLESTON

A beautiful department store in Mt.Pleasant! As you walk through the door refreshments are on a table and everyone that works there is so friendly. Such a neat store!

Ok, I love the show Southern Charm. So of course I had to stop in to see Craig! What a great new store recently opened on King Street. Inside, you'll find beautiful pillows and other items. Nothing is wrong with your sewing Craig! The pillows are beautiful! Sew proud of you.

Walking down King Street, I stopped into a new store that I had never heard of before. Beautiful dresses in the window caught my eye and I ended up buying two!

WHAT DIET?

Walking around Charleston you can easily burn 600 or more calories in a day, so why not eat well! Although I am gluten-free, I found some great places to eat in Mount Pleasant and around Charleston. These are my favorites...

• Crossing over the Ravenel Bridge to the Patriots Point is the Charleston Fish House. There were so many delicious items on the menu and it was hard to choose. I decided to go with the wedge salad and the salmon with asparagus. Everything was absolutely delicious! Great atmosphere and a beautiful sunset made a delicious dinner even better!

• Stopped in and ate at Aw Shuck Seafood Shack on King Street. I tried blackened mahi mahi. So fresh and so delicious. It was actually my first time trying it.

• Gluten-free and homemade. Yes and YES! Had a scoop of peppermint mint chip at Republic Ice Cream. Cute old-fashioned ice cream shop and the ice cream is so good!

La Patisserie has so many choices of coffees and pasteries. I got the RUBY. It is gluten-free decadent dessert. Sinfully good!

INTERIOR CHARM

Two beautiful places to stay are the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina and The Charleston Place.

Each unique and elegantly designed. Classic and timeless design details make these my favorites.

Where am I going next? Hmm..I think I have Georgia on my mind.
