Tie-dye is back! A trend of decades ago, which became a symbol of creative expression, seems to be everywhere again. I heard it was actually one of the biggest comeback fashion trends of 2019.
So, after finishing up my class, I decided to give this trendy tie-dyeing a try. I used a white tank top and shirt I had on hand. I used the old fashioned technique of rubber bands on the tank top and pinched and tightly wrapped the white shirt.
I used the RIT dye, but there are dyes in squirt bottles now so you can specifically choose spots for color. If you use the RIT dye, make sure you add a half cup of salt and make sure the water is really hot for beautiful, vibrant colors. How long you leave the item in the dye is dependent on the color you want. Rinse the tie-dyed item with fresh water, unwrap and take rubber bands off and let dry in sun or dryer.
The whole process didn’t take too long, and the results were pretty cool! I will probably experiment next with the squirt dyes.
It was actually a fun break between class and my assignments. Breaks help to clear my mind, and then when I get back to work I feel more refreshed! It works for me!
The cool thing about tye-dyeing is that no two items will ever be exactly the same! Every tie-dye item can express your individual style depending on how you do it and the colors you use.
