I love the warmer weather. Actually summer is my favorite season. Every summer, I plant an herb garden. My favorite is basil. I love making pesto. Did you know that basil is an herb of the mint family?
I was in Michael's yesterday. Instead of just buying a clay pot and planting my basil, I decided to try something new. Mod Podging is actually fun and pretty therapeutic. I cut pieces of yellow, orange, and silver paper and applied it to the clay pot using Mod Podge, which is similar to a glue. Basically, you just keep layering paper or photos and apply a final top coat. Let it dry for 24 hours and then spray it with a top coat of clear coat enamel.
It was a fun distraction. I continue to try things that I have never done before. Trying new things is good for the soul.
If you like basil try making pesto. A great recipe for making pesto that I tried from the book Essentials From Italian Cooking is listed below. Mix in with pasta or put on chicken. It is awesome!
In a food processor, process:
2 cups of basil
1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons of pine nuts
2 chopped garlic cloves
salt
THEN, add by hand:
1/2 cup grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese
2 tablespoons grated romano cheese
3 tablespoons softened butter
