A SUNSET AND SIGHTS IN SAVANNAH

Updated: May 29, 2021

Spanish moss, historic sites and steps, ghost tours, and a city rich with history. Savannah awaited me visiting from Charleston. I have never been before and I loved it! I captured every moment to remember not only the beauty, but the history behind everything. Here are some of my favorite places I discovered during my time in one of the most haunted town in the US!

REST & RELAXATION ON THE RIVERSIDE

Arrived in Savannah just in time to watch the sunset. Stayed at the Cotton Sail Hotel right on the river. Beautiful hotel and my room looked out over the river.

Got a bite to eat outside overlooking the water and sunset at Rocks on the River. My dinner was delicious.

And when in Savannah eating a warm praline from River Street Candy Store. Pralines are so amazing! Made from pecans, sugar, and cream and warm....so good. I could not resist!

Savannah is rich in history. Got a great workout going up and down the historic steps leading to the river. They say "at your own risk" for a reason. Very steep! Cobble stone streets, restaurants and shops line the river. I did chicken out on a night ghost tour. Maybe next time!

Walking from the hotel to Forsyth Park, I stopped at a coffee shop called, Coffee Fox. People line up outside in the morning. Wow, I also had the most delicious gluten & vegan free banana muffin.

Walking down Whitaker Street towards Forsyth Park it is impossible not to take in all the beauty and history that Savannah has to offer. Some of the oldest churches in America are in Savannah. Weaving in and out of trees covered in Spanish Moss, I passed by Sherman's Headquarters on my way to Forsyth Park, covering 30 acres, is known as Savannah's largest and oldest park.

Inside the park is the beautiful Forsyth Fountain built in 1858. Next stop on my walking tour was City Market. Another great place with restaurants and shops. Purchased some gluten-free cookies at the famous cookie store Byrd's Famous Cookies, which by the way provides free samples.
