STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF = SUCCESS

I love to find great deals. I went to Target today and came across this beautiful dress at the Pop-Up at the front of the store. I thought it was really pretty, so I bought it. Target will do collaborations with different designers, such as Lilly Pulitzer. This Target dress is from a collection collaboration with LoveShackFancy, a popular line of Victorian, flowery dresses.

I know of the store from my summers in the Hamptons. I also recognized the name of the designer from an article I had read some time ago about the founder in Forbes Magazine. Rebecca Hessel Cohen, founder and designer of LoveShackFancy, created dresses originally for her bridal party. She wanted elegant dresses that her bridesmaids could move easily in at her wedding and on the dance floor.

What I found interesting about her is the level of detail that goes into each dress, which is why the original dresses are pricier. She searches the world for the laces and trimmings. All of the prints are hand painted and the embroidery is hand done. Its like each dress is its own masterpiece. Also, the company is a small business, run by her and her family, which is really neat.

I love stories about people that were told they would never be successful and go on to become the biggest successes. Cohen had taken her line to department stores and they told her her aesthetic wasn't sophisticated and wouldn't be successful unless she changed the name. Instead, she stayed true to herself and persisted with what she believed in and kept the name. She stuck to her own path, even though some people may not have approved or liked it. She never gave up and now her line is more popular than ever!

She tells a story with each dress and makes me feel like I can be a part of her story as well, even in a Target version. I love her dresses, but love her story even more!

Stories like Cohen's remind me to always stick to my own path, no matter what others think. Believing in yourself and what you can accomplish despite any obstacle that may come your way is what will ultimately lead to success!
