STYLE REWIND: VINTAGE CHLOE

I have read many articles on sustainability. In fact, I even wrote my own piece about my university's own recycling efforts for a magazine assignment for my graphics class.

We think about plastics as being a big polluter. However, according to articles I've read @worldwearproject, @fashionunitedhq and @npr, an average consumer throws away approximately 70 pounds of clothing per year. Interestingly enough, second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world.

The fashion industry is now creating a new vision of what fashion is, which incorporates social responsibility and a commitment to our planet. Companies like @depop, @poshmark and sites like @etsy and @ebay are making it easier for us to develop their own aesthetic, while helping to eliminate textile waste that contributes to climate change.

Today, in the spirit of recycling vintage clothing, my aunt gifted me one of her first finds — a vintage @chloe dress designed under the direction of the late @karllagerfeld. It is gorgeous and the detailing is beautiful. When I put it on, I had my own Carrie Bradshaw moment, similar to when she would find a pair of shoes. The dress reminded me of something Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly would've worn.

If you're not into vintage and second-hand, companies like @madewell and @hm have garment collection and recycling programs that send unwanted garments for proper disposal if they are unable to be sold as second-hand goods. @thredup sends in unwanted items for a store credit, which I was happy to participate in a few months ago.

Happy (socially responsible) shopping!
