THANK YOU, JULIE & JULIA AND GRANDMA!

Since my classes ended, I have been watching a lot of movies. Watching movies are a fun escape! Last weekend, I watched the movie Julie & Julia on Netflix. It is a great movie that parallels the lives of Julia Child, who brought to America the art of French cooking in the 1960's and Julie, a young New Yorker looking for an escape from an unfulfilling job. Julie started a blog to record her goal of attempting all 524 recipes from Julia Child's famous cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She gave herself one year to tackle this feat.

To be honest I don't know a lot about cooking, except for a few simple dishes. Learning to cook is something I have wanted to explore more of, but have not really had the time in the past because of other obligations.

After watching the movie, I was so inspired that I wanted to attempt making one of Julia Child's dishes myself. Everything sounded so good! I was inspired by Julie.

A few days later, I actually received Julia Child's cookbook in the mail, a surprise gift from my grandmother! We had discussed the movie because she loves to cook. She is an excellent cook herself.

I absolutely loved the gift and immediately wanted to tackle one of the recipes. I flipped through the book and looked for a recipe. Due to shortages on many items, I decided to start with a vegetable dish. I love vegetables, especially tomatoes. A fun side fact: tomatoes are actually classified as a vegetable and a fruit.

The recipe I made was called Tomates A La Provençale, roasted tomatoes stuffed with bread crumbs, herbs, garlic and shallots. Yum! The kitchen smelled so delicious, and they didn't last long once I put them on the table. Five stars! ! I will definitely be making more!

Always try new things. I feel that every once in a while people should try something they have never done before. It can be a big confidence booster. I didn't tackle the toughest recipe in the book, but it didn't matter because just trying something new was fun.

Thank you to Julia Child for bringing us these amazing and timeless recipes. Thank you to Julie for inspiring me to try something new. Thank you to my grandmother for giving me this timeless classic! Hopefully, I will be able to make her an amazing dinner in person soon.
